This spring the deer
have greater free reign
among less travelled streets
in my small town
Does seem lighter hoofed
fawns trailing behind
stags with showy racks
off somewhere having already gamboled
Mornings are quieter
weather doesn’t matter as much
the day ahead filled with separateness
drawing us into a closer more common world
Last night when the howling began
in celebration of the caregivers
I walked a nearby park’s trails
and saw a rabbit no longer afraid
Evenings propose new dawns
