The film Exterminating Angel (El Angel Exterminador), from which the Press takes its name, is by the Spanish director Luis Bunuel. In it, a bunch of rich people meet for a dinner party before the opera. After dinner, for no explained reason, they find they can’t leave the house. They can open the door, they can talk to the fire department outside, but they can’t walk across the threshold. Much horror ensues. At the end, the group can leave the house as mysteriously as it was trapped before. The entire town then goes into the cathedral to give thanks for the party’s liberation. And then… no one can leave the church.
That’s the end of the film.
This is why another of our mottos at Exterminating Angel Press is: “Just open the door.”
