Fictional Characters Working Group June Minutes

June 14, 2008 by David Gordon

FICTIONAL CHARACTERS FOR REAL LIFE

SOCIAL CHANGE MEETING

June 1, 2008

PRESENT:   Tiger Lily [Peter Pan], Dorothy of Kansas [Wizard of Oz],  Bill the Cat [Bloom County], Dr. Manette [Tale of Two Cities], Prince Andrei [War and Peace], St. Christopher, Foghorn Leghorn, GI Joe, Little Orphan Annie, Sandy

ABSENT:      Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Wonder Woman, and Wendy Darling

The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. at the EAP World Headquarters Little Conference Room.  Sherry and Biscuits were offered by EAP publisher Tod Davies, but acting chairman Little Orphan Annie refused them on the basis that this was charity, and the group would earn anything it ate.

At this point, Old Dog Tray left the meeting.

BUDGET

Budget Committee at present is still only Bill the Cat.  Unfortunately, Bill was chased from the room immediately by Sandy, the dog of Little Orphan Annie, and spent the meeting hiding under publisher Tod Davies’ desk down the hall.  Little Orphan Annie told the group that Sandy had no objection to cats, “it’s lefties and Commies and un-American types he don’t like, and good thing, too.”  Dr. Manette suggested that Sandy might be a danger to others.  Annie responded, “If you done nothin’ wrong, you got nothin’ to worry ‘bout, Doc.  We love good folk.”

Dr. Manette left the meeting, followed by GI Joe.

MINUTES

It was M/S/P (Tiger Lily/St. Christopher) to approve the minutes of the Meetings meeting as distributed.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

Lil Orphan Annie announced that, now she was chairman, the committee was going to go in an entirely different direction.  “Cause I think this bellyachin’ and complainin’ is jest not helpful.  And anyone thinkin’ we don’t live in just the best darned country in the whole darned world, is just givin’ aid and comfort to the enemy.”

Sandy said, “Arf.”

Prince Andrei now excused himself from the meeting, saying he had business to attend to in Russia.

Foghorn Leghorn said, “I’m with you, little lady!  Let’s put ‘er to a vote!”

Vote taken on whether the FCFRLSC Working Group should shift its focus from trying to change society for the better and instead focus on betting its bottom dollar that the sun would come up tomorrow, come what may.

Motion tied 3 – 3.  Lil Orphan Annie, Sandy, and Foghorn Leghorn voting for;  St. Christopher, Tiger Lily, and Dorothy of Kansas against.

At this point, Sandy growled, and Tiger Lily moved to end the meeting.   Foghorn Leghorn and Lil Orphan Annie went into a huddle in the corner, came out, and agreed.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be 6 pm, 1 July, in the Little Conference Room.  Meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm, though Foghorn Leghorn, Little Orphan Annie, and Sandy stayed behind, locking the door, until what hour none of the rest of us knows.  We didn’t wait to see, but went and got Bill the Cat out from under Tod’s desk, calmed him down, and took him out for a drink, which we all agreed we needed.

Respectfully submitted,

Dorothy of Kansas

Group Secretary
