edge0fthew0rld:

Alone no more. Snuck out anyway. Good advice p0stb0redom. Ran farther off the trail than I ever went in a direction I never gone. Off into the thick fog. Ran and ran and ran out of steam and decided to sit down on a fallen tree trunk and post from my phone. Mad lost. Don’t matter. No one to give me shit out here. Just birds. Wait. Don’t even hear them. Weird.

edge0fthew0rld:

Holy shit―you won’t believe this but there’s a dude just standing out there watching me. Antlers on his head. No joke. At 1st I thought he was a tree. He’s been standing there for like 10 min at least. Can’t get the camera app to work anymore. Can’t see his face in the fog buut it’s totally a person. With FUCKING ANTLERS. God of my heart? I’ve prayed for him, whispering his name into dandelion seeds, listening for his tongue among the creek stones, pressing bare skin against tree bark longing for the touch of his hand. Fuck. He’s actually wallkin over here. I am ready. And I am so not ready. FML WHY AM I STILL BLOGGING??//???/?.mhjlg;lgj

A Midwife’s Insurance.

June 24, 2013 by Exangel

by Elizabeth Jarrett Andrew That February a Minneapolis midwife got busted.  Maryann, my old mentor, called with the news.  “Undercover agents, a forced entry.  Held her thirteen-year-old daughter at gunpoint, ransacked her office, took her computer, everything.  She’s out on bail now, but holy Jesus.” It was a blow.  Until then, plenty of Minnesotan midwives […]

Rebuilding Culture from the Ground Up.

May 21, 2013 by Exangel

One of my most cherished possessions is a 1911 edition of the Encylopedia Brittanica—in fact, I have two sets, one in my own home base, in the woods of Oregon, and one borrowed from the university library, in Boulder. Cherished not just for the humane, clear learning that leaps out of every article, but for […]

Mother Hubbard and EAP’s Raison d’être.

March 31, 2013 by Exangel

The whole purpose of Exterminating Angel Press is to find, develop, and publish stories that have been overlooked in the mad dash for competition to get to the top of…of what? We’re thinking about that too. What is it we’re all in this mad dash for? And what happens when one of us gets to […]

Unless You Feel It.

March 31, 2013 by Exangel

by Alena Deerwater  Unless you feel it, you will never achieve it. If it doesn’t flow from your soul with natural easy power your listeners will not believe it. You can sit down and paste phrases together by the hour. Cook up a little stew from others’ feasts; you can blow up miserable flames from […]

Adult.

March 31, 2013 by Exangel

by David D. Horowitz “Growing up” typically entails forsaking childish illusions for adult “realities.” Precisely what realities, though, does “growing up” entail? Should growing up mean giving up an arts career if one cannot earn a middle-class living from it? Should one renounce poetry or playwriting because they cannot reliably provide a four-bedroom suburban ranch […]

Brantwood Beach: Battlescars and Stigmata.

March 31, 2013 by Exangel

by Robert Markland Smith. I am Brantwood Beach, and I remember. I sit in Ottawa East, in the capital of Canada, and it was 1959, the year Fidel took over Cuba. There were radio reports, with static over the airwaves, and this was a new hope. I remember it well. That spring, a bunch of […]

Going Gray: A Sign of Healthy Aging.

March 31, 2013 by Exangel

by Matt Stone Most people think that graying hair is a sign of getting older, of declining physical prowess.  And you know what, those people are absolutely right!  Healthy aging or not, graying hair is a sign of aging and you can be certain that your body is not functioning at its 100% physical peak […]

That cult classic pirate/sci fi mash up GREENBEARD, by Richard James Bentley, is now a rollicking audiobook, available from Audible.com. Narrated and acted by Colby Elliott of Last Word Audio, you’ll be overwhelmed by the riches and hilarity within.

“Captain Sylvestre de Greybagges is your typical seventeenth-century Cambridge-educated lawyer turned Caribbean pirate, as comfortable debating the virtues of William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, and compound interest as he is wielding a cutlass, needling archrival Henry Morgan, and parsing rum-soaked gossip for his next target. When a pepper monger’s loose tongue lets out a rumor about a fleet loaded with silver, the Captain sets sail only to find himself in a close encounter of a very different kind.

After escaping with his sanity barely intact and his beard transformed an alarming bright green, Greybagges rallies The Ark de Triomphe crew for a revenge-fueled, thrill-a-minute adventure to the ends of the earth and beyond.

This frolicsome tale of skullduggery, jiggery-pokery, and chicanery upon Ye High Seas is brimming with hilarious puns, masterful historical allusions, and nonstop literary hijinks. Including sly references to Thomas Pynchon, Treasure Island, 1940s cinema, and notable historical figures, this mélange of delights will captivate readers with its rollicking adventure, rich descriptions of food and fashion, and learned asides into scientific, philosophical, and colonial history.”

Newport Public Library hosted a three part Zoom series on Visionary Fiction, led by Tod.

And we love them for it, too.

The first discussion was a lively blast. You can watch it here. The second, Looking Back to Look Forward can be seen here.

The third was the best of all. Visions of the Future, with a cast of characters including poets, audiobook artists, historians, Starhawk, and Mary Shelley. Among others. Link is here.

SNOTTY SAVES THE DAY is now an audiobook, narrated by Last Word Audio’s mellifluous Colby Elliott. It launched May 10th, but for a limited time, you can listen for free with an Audible trial membership. So what are you waiting for? Start listening to the wonders of how Arcadia was born from the worst section of the worst neighborhood in the worst empire of all the worlds since the universe began.

If you love audio books, don’t miss the new release of REPORT TO MEGALOPOLIS, by Tod Davies, narrated by Colby Elliott of Last Word Audio. The tortured Aspern Grayling tries to rise above the truth of his own story, fighting with reality every step of the way, and Colby’s voice is the perfect match for our modern day Dr. Frankenstein.

Tod on the Importance of Visionary Fiction

Check out this video of “Beyond Utopia: The Importance of Fantasy,” Tod’s recent talk at the tenth World-Ecology Research Network Conference, June 2019, in San Francisco. She covers everything from Wind in the Willows to the work of Kim Stanley Robinson, with a look at The History of Arcadia along the way. As usual, she’s going on about how visionary fiction has an important place in the formation of a world we want and need to have.
