Fictional Characters Working Group April 09 Minutes

April 11, 2009 by David Gordon

FICTIONAL CHARACTERS FOR REAL LIFE
SOCIAL CHANGE MEETING
April 1, 2008

PRESENT: Dorothy of Kansas [Wizard of Oz], Dr. Manette [Tale of Two Cities], Prince Andrei [War and Peace], St. Christopher, Old Dog Tray, Bugs Bunny, GI Joe, Scrooge, Marilyn Munster, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Tiger Lily

ABSENT:   Wendy Darling, Jemima, Wonder Woman, Rosie the Riveter, Bill the Cat, Elmer Fudd

The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. at the EAP World Headquarters Little Conference Room by acting chairwoman Marilyn Munster.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

As Jemima has received the huge honor of being invited to Paris to cook a special meal for M. and Mme. Sarkozy (nee Bruni), on the enthusiastic recommendation of Michelle Obama ("that girl loves my crepes," as Jemima commented), she has missed this meeting. Chairman Wendy and Wonder Woman couldn't resist going along, and at the last minute, Rosie the Riveter bought a cheap ticket off Orbitz and joined them.  We miss them, but look forward to hearing about their adventures next month. We all know how much Wendy and Wonder Woman love Paris.

In other business:  Bugs Bunny presented a comparison between his business plan for sustainable, local carrot farming, and Elmer Fudd's mega-corporate organic carrot farm.  It was a very interesting presentation (we especially admired the pie charts, which had been prepared for Bugs by Johanna Warren), and showed that though the Bugs method was less productive in terms of carrots per hour, while the Elmer Fudd method positively churned them out, the Bugs method was a.) sustainable, b.) leisurely (for farming, anyway, as Bugs pointed out), and c.) more fun. He also provided samples of his carrots and Elmer's.  No comparison.

I presented my ideas about the differences in the business plans of Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch of the West.  Scrooge asked some very trenchant questions, which helped me to refine my ideas.  Why, for example, does the Wicked Witch's plan appear to have more value added than Glinda's, in terms of job creation for flying monkeys, building work for castle contractors, etc.  Scrooge has kindly given me Alan Greenspan's email so that I can get some really good advice on this, and I hope to have a more complete presentation in two month's time.

Tiger Lily made a motion that the next meeting be a closed session, and that Madama Butterfly be admitted as a member.  Old Dog Tray seconded.  Motion passed with only GI Joe opposed.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be 6 pm, 1 April 2009, in the Little Conference Room. It will be a closed meeting, with limited minutes available to the public.  Meeting was adjourned 6:20, when all except GI Joe gathered around Tiger Lily to comfort her.

Respectfully submitted,
Dorothy of Kansas
