words from Tod…
So this CD just showed up in our mailbox one day, a black and white sketch of a guitar on the cover, with the label SEX PATELS. The play list was, as far as we could tell, exclusively punk rock songs of the 70's. Very mysterious.
Upon playing, it revealed itself to be Bollywood style punk rock. Which took the songs to a whole new level of ironic multiculturalism, exoticism, and production value.
Irresistible.
Research about the SEX PATELS, their makeup, their origins, their goals, even where you could possibly buy their music, revealed absolutely nada…except for the inevitable MySpace page .
The search continues. The Sex Patels are the coolest, most sophisticated, most ironic easy listening I'll do this year…and it's only January.
(If you can find the cuts on their MySpace page, special attention should be paid to the Patel version of Holiday Inn Cambodia, and Watching the Detectives. Be warned.)
